A lot has been going on on Broadway since our last post. Well-reviewed musicals “South Pacifc” and “In the Heights” won tons of Tonys and now, tickets are almost impossible to get. Good things are coming to Broadway too, like “Billy Elliot,” “Equus,” and “A Tale of Two Cities.” Get tickets to these shows early as the prices on the secondary market are sure to climb once review come out.
Tickets for the Broadway musical version of SHREK will be available online and at the box office beginning May 30th. Buy early and ensure dates around the holidays.
If you are headed to NYC and looking to see a Broadway show the hottest currently are Wicked, South Pacific, the Lion King and Grease. If you are headed to Broadway in the fall, good shows coming up include Equus, Billy Elliot and a Tale of Two Cities.
“Pop singer Nick Lachey has signed on to host the upcoming ABC reality competition series “High School Musical: Summer Session.”
“The Provincetown Playhouse, the Greenwich Village theatre built in 1918, may be subjected to a wrecking ball.
“Tony Award winners Richard Maltby, Jr. and Jeff Whitty will head to summer camp as part of Stagedoor Manor’s playwriting DramaFest.
“Linda Eder, the powerhouse singer seen on Broadway in Jekyll & Hyde, will perform the songs made famous by Judy Garland during three upcoming concerts at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
“Tony Award-winning actress Betty Buckley, who recently played an acclaimed engagement at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency, will bring her eclectic repertoire to the Bay Street Theatre in May.
“It looks like Tony and Academy Award winner Al Pacino, who was most recently on Broadway in the 2003 revival of Salome, will return to the Great White Way in 2009 in the Broadway bow of Lyle Kessler’s taut three-hander, Orphans.
“This site last week made the not-too-risky prediction that author Tracy Letts‘ August: Osage County would win the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the first title with a colon to win since 1993’s Angels in America: Millennium Approaches. The playwright, as well as his producers, were not willing to comment on the play’s chances of winning prior to the announcement, but you can bet they’ll be yakking up the news from now on!
